The invention relates to agents for colouring keratinic fibres, in particular human hair, which agents contain in a cosmetically acceptable carrier as developer component at least one cationic derivative of 1-(2,5- dihydroxyphenyl)pyridinium of general formula (I), in which R1, R2, independently, represent a hydrogen atom, a C1-C6 alkyl group, a C2-C6 alkenyl group, a C1-C6 alkoxy group, a halogen atom (Cl, Br, F or J), a C1-C6 hydroxyalkyl group, a C2-C6 polyhydroxyalkyl group, a hydroxy-C2-C6 alkyloxy group, an aryl group, an aryl C1-C6 alkyl group or an aryl C1-C6- alkyloxy group, and X- stands for a monovalent anion, preferably halide, hydrogen sulphate, 1/2 sulphate, p-benzene sulphonate, p-toluene sulphonate, acetate, citrate, lactate, tetrafluoroborate, trifluoromethane sulphonate, hexafluorophosphate, methane sulphate or methane sulphonate.
