The method involves providing reference measurements of ice to water ratio depending on road temperatures for different salt content of reference-ice-water mixture. Thicknesses of a water layer and an ice layer on the road surface are determined, and the ice to water ratio of the ice-water mixture is determined from the determined thicknesses of the water layer and the ice layer. Temperature of the road surface is determined, and freezing temperature of the ice-water mixture is determined from the determined ice-to-water ratio and the determined temperature using the reference measurements. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining freezing temperature of ice-water mixture on a road surface comprising a sensor device for determining temperature of the road surface. |
