<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of making the service life of a non-volatile memory longer. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 includes a volatile memory (RAM or the like) storing a plurality of data, a non-volatile memory for backup for the plurality of data (flash memory or the like), and control means for controlling the timing of writing the plurality of data stored in the volatile memory to the non-volatile memory. The plurality of data are divided into a plurality of groups GP1 and GP2, based on the data characteristics (characteristics on data availability in non-updating or the like) of the plurality of data. First data attributed to the group GP1 is written in the non-volatile memory at a frequency lower than the updating frequency of the first data on the volatile memory.
