<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that an image forming apparatus takes time to start because inspection for foreign matters accompanied by carriage scanning are executed whenever the apparatus is started. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus determines whether a count value of a printed sheet number corresponds with that of the printed sheet number when jam occurs when the image forming apparatus is started in a state of power-on.
