A method of detecting space debris comprises: generating virtual space debris in accordance with the law of conservation of mass by applying a debris breakup model to a fracture origin body which is likely to fracture in the past in orbit around the earth (steps S1, S3), performing an orbit calculation for each virtual space debris during fixed-point observation by applying a debris orbit propagation model to the virtual space debris respectively (step S5), and generating an appearance frequency distribution of the mobile vector for each virtual space debris on the celestial sphere on the basis of the orbit calculation results (step S13). This is repeated a plurality of times (step S9, step S11) and vectors within a search area are determined on the basis of the mobile vector which is high in the appearance frequency distribution of the mobile vector, the superposition method is applied to each area where each image shot with a time interval during the fixed-point observation is sequentially moved in the shooting order along the vectors within the search area, and the space debris appearing in the image is detected (steps S17 to S21). |
