A tool replacement device configured so that tools (10) having retention grooves (12) formed in the peripheral edges thereof are contained in tool containing sections (302) and extracted therefrom, the tool containing sections (302) being provided to a tool magazine (300), the tools (10) being contained in the tool containing sections (302) in such a manner that the axes of the tools (10) are substantially horizontal. The tool replacement device comprises: a base section (100); a slider (200) provided at a side of the tool containing sections (302) so that the slider (200) can slide relative to the base section (100) in the direction substantially parallel to the axes of the tools; a holder (250) movably attached to the slider (200) and having an engagement section (252) engaging with the retention grooves (12) of the tools (10); and a movement means for moving the holder (250) relative to the slider (200). The movement means comprises a handle section (260) for applying a rotational force about an axis extending substantially parallel to the axes of the tools (10); a first cam mechanism (250, 242) for moving the holder within a plane substantially perpendicular to the axes of the tools (10) in response to a first rotational operation of the handle section (260); and a second cam mechanism (161, 270) for moving the holder (250) along the direction of the axes of the tools (10) in response to a second rotational operation of the handle section (26) following the first rotational operation.
