Method and device for opening bound printed products in continuous motion

The device (1) has a height-adjustable product opener (5) movable in a horizontal direction. Guide plates (8', 8'', 8''') hold a printed product in a position opened by the opener. An optical detection device (7) is provided above a part of the printed product, where the part contains a preset side to be opened and lies on a transport path (2). Cover openers (10', 10'', 10''') are arranged in series in a transport direction for lifting an upper sheet. A controller compares an image delivered by the detection device with stored images of an edge of a preset side, and controls the cover openers.
