Disclosed are: a hot rolled sheet steel which has aging resistance and soft/highly ductile properties, while achieving improved | ?r | without causing excessive grain coarsening; and a method for producing the hot rolled sheet steel. Specifically disclosed is a hot rolled sheet steel which is characterized by containing, in mass%, not less than 0.03% but not more than 0.07% of C, not more than 0.1% of Si, not less than 0.05% but not more than 0.5% of Mn, not more than 0.03% of P, not more than 0.03% of S, not less than 0.02% but not more than 0.1% of sol. Al, not more than 0.005% of N, less than 0.005% of Nb + Ti and not less than 0.0003% but not more than 0.0020% of B, with the balance made up of Fe and unavoidable impurities. The hot rolled sheet steel is also characterized by having an average crystal grain size of not less than 12 µm but not more than 25 µm, while satisfying | ?r | = 0.25 and AI = 20 MPa. |
