<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly reliable light emitting device while suppressing the decline of luminance of a light emitting element due to the presence of a protective element. <P>SOLUTION: A Zener diode 24 as the protective element is loaded on a first lead terminal 29 exposed inside a cavity 31 of a resin part 25. Light emitting diode chips 22 and 23 as the light emitting elements are loaded on the bottom part 35 of a recessed part 32 of a second lead terminal 30 exposed inside the cavity 31. In such a manner, the Zener diode 24 is disposed on the upper side of the light emitting diode chips 22 and 23, so that light emitted from the light emitting diode chips 22 and 23 and reflected on the sidewall 36 of the recessed part 32 does not easily reach the Zener diode 22, and the decline of the luminance of the light emitted from the light emitting device 21 is prevented.
