<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-reading device capable of exerting high durability while enhancing the convenience at the time of opening and closing a carrying unit and realizing downsizing and a thin-shape. <P>SOLUTION: Through a bottom cover 30, provided is an opening 84 which makes a manuscript 9 to be conveyed to transportation means 42 pass in the upper part direction of reading means 25 located at a stop position 18.
