The invention relates to an intrusion detection system comprising: a barrier (102); an optical fibre cable (108); ties (110) by means of which the optical fibre cable (108) is attached to the barrier (102), each pair of successive ties defining a portion (111) of optical fibre cable (108) that has two ends (111A, 111B) each attached to the barrier (102) by said two ties (110); and an intrusion detection device (120) designed to emit a light signal in the optical fibre cable (108) and receive and analyse the light signal that has passed through the optical fibre cable (108), so that an intrusion can be detected. Furthermore, the ties (110) are designed to prevent any longitudinal movement of the ends (111A, 111B) of each cable portion (111) with respect to the barrier (102). For each cable portion (111), the system comprises means for mechanically coupling same to the barrier (102). In addition, the detection device (120) is designed to detect the deformation of one of the cable portions (111) and to identify said cable portion (111) on the basis of the analysis of the light signal that has passed through the optical fibre cable (108).
