<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing generation of abnormal discharge and also image quality degradation. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a discharge wire 42 and a grid 43 and is equipped with a charger 41 for charging a photoreceptor 44, a voltage application unit 60 for applying electrification voltage CHG to the charger 41, a voltage detection unit 68 for detecting the electrification voltage CHG, and a control unit 51 for constant voltage control of the voltage application unit 60 on the basis of a detected voltage D1.
