<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orthodontic wire having characteristics for securing a desirable degree of rigidity when used as an orthodontic instrument and/or for securing an appropriate spring characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The orthodontic wire is machined to a diameter of 0.5 mm or less and is made of a Ti-based alloy containing at least two kinds selected from Mo, Sn, Sc, Nb, Ta, Hf, and Zr and the rest Ti and inevitable impurities, while not containing at least Ni.
