<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which is especially useful as a filter to collect particulates in an exhaust gas, is securely suppressed in generation of defects such as small holes and cracks after coating by a coating material, and is excellent in durability. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of honeycomb segments are integrally jointed with a joining material. The jointed body is coated on the outer peripheral surface with a coating material containing ceramics as a main ingredient, and containing a particulate filler and 9 to 13 mass% of water.
