<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize an optical mode to provide, obtain a stable heat-assisted effect, and realize stable recording in a heat-assisted magnetic recording head having an optical waveguide. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording head includes: an optical waveguide to guide a laser beam onto a surface of a magnetic recording medium; and, in the vicinity of at least one part where a structure of the optical waveguide changes discontinuously, a shield which absorbs or reflects non-propagating light escaping from the discontinuous part to the outside of the optical waveguide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
