摘要 Provided is a method for producing a glass substrate for magnetic disks, which enables grinding by hard abrasion without a reduction in grinding rate, and with which it is possible to produce high-quality glass substrates at low cost. The present invention is a method for producing glass substrates for magnetic disks, the method comprising a grinding step in which the main surface of the glass substrate is ground using: a lubricating solution; and a surface plate having a grinding surface on which abrasive particles including diamond particles are positioned. In the aforementioned grinding step, the lubricating solution that is supplied to the grinding surface of the glass substrate is made to contain Al3+ ions by the addition of Al2O3, for example. The Al2O3 content of the lubricating solution preferably falls within the range of 0.05g/L to 1.0g/L.
