The hand held tool has a damper (30) comprising a spring unit (32) for suspending a mass (31). The spring unit acts upon a deflection of the mass from an initial position in one direction (39) parallel to the working axis and upon a deflection of mass from a normal position in another direction (41). The spring stiffness in one direction is different from spring stiffness in another direction.
