Copper is stripped by flexing the cathode by an amt. exceeding the strength of the bond between copper and cathode but not exceeding the elastic limit of the cathode so that at least part of the copper separates. The copper is then wedge-stripped or gas-blasted from the cathode. The cathode is pref. a sheet of stainless steel and may be flexed in one direction only or in one direction and then in the opposite direction. The cathode is pref.held upright by two pairs of reaction bars, one on either side near its lower edge and the other on either side near the upper edge, and is flexed by a hydraulic ram making point, line or area contact with the cathode.
|
