PURPOSE: A composition containing Melastoma sanguineum extract or fraction thereof is provided to suppress aldose reductase and to prevent diabetes complication. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes complication contains Melastoma sanguineum extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared by isolating water, water soluble alcohol, or mixture solvent thereof. A pharmaceutical composition also contains fraction as an active ingredient, prepared by adding organic solvent to the Melastoma sanguineum extract. The fraction is a n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, n-butanol fraction, or water fraction.
