<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system capable of easily configure an environment where a specific scan mode is performed according to the function of a connected information processor, and capable of easily changing the scan environment, and to provide an image reader, a control method thereof and a program. <P>SOLUTION: A system setting application operating in an information controller at an image input place searches scan environment corresponding to hardware information transmitted from an image reader, determines and configures an optimal environment, and notifies the results to the image reader.
