The belt tensioner is for a safety belt in a vehicle. It consists of a locking device which is actuated by a sensor on exceeding a predetermined critical acceleration value. To limit the belt force a mechanism is incorporated which at the end of the tensioning movement makes possible the release of the belt lock such that the anchor part (11) with its cone-shaped piston presses into the bush (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - Belt tensioner which in conjunction with clamps or especially stiff vehicle bodywork ensures that the permitted boundary values are not exceeded.
