<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracker that is advantageous to reduction in false tracking of an object. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a tracker that operates as follows: A pixel region including pixels corresponding to the location of a designated object is set as a characteristic color extraction area. Each color of the pixels included in the characteristic color extraction area is made to be a characteristic candidate color. For each characteristic candidate color, a first area of a pixel group in which pixels of a similar color including pixels of the characteristic candidate color are continuous, a second area of pixels of a color similar to the characteristic candidate color in the whole image, and a ratio of the first area to second area are calculated. Then, the characteristic candidate color having the smallest first area among the characteristic candidate colors whose ratio of the first area to the second area is higher than a predetermined reference ratio is extracted as the characteristic color of the object.
