<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image defect caused from shading-compensated image data. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 10 includes a shading memory 52, a shading compensation circuit 54, a defective pixel extraction section 56, and a read image data correction section 58. The shading memory 52 stores shading reference data. The shading compensation circuit 54 applies shading compensation to image data read by an imaging section 18 according to the shading reference data. The defective pixel extraction section 56 extracts a defective pixel P3 according to the shading reference data.
