发明名称 Apparatus for securing lining material to brake shoes
摘要 704,641. Brake shoes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Nov. 7, 1951 [Nov. 15, 1950], No. 26101/51. Class 103(1) [Also in Group VIII] The invention relates to a machine for clamping brake shoe and lining assemblies together under a predetermined pressure, passing the assemblies through a curing oven and thereafter automatically discharging the shoe assemblies, the only action necessary by the operator being that of placing the separate shoe and lining elements in position in the machine. As seen in Fig. 9, the machine comprises a continuous chain conveyer driven in a clockwise sense by sprocket wheels 34, 36, 38. The chain 32 is arranged mainly vertically to save floor space, it being stated that the top of the heating oven 30, through which the shoe assemblies are passed, may project twenty or thirty feet above the roof of a two-storey building. The operator stands facing the sprocket wheel 38 and feeds into the machine individual shoe and lining assemblies. These are carried upwards and after passing through a clamping device 122, which secures shoe and lining elements together under a predetermined pressure, they pass through the oven 30 and the bonded shoe and lining assemblies are discharged from the machine by an unclamping device 124 generally similar to the device 122. The machine is designed to pass shoe assemblies through in pairs of holders arranged end to end, one such holder being shown in Fig. 10. Each holder comprises a lower arcuate frame 54 to which is pivoted at 58 an upper frame 60. The lower frame 54 supports a flexible arcuate band member 72, shown more clearly in Fig. 19, on which the operator places individual shoe and lining elements. The upper frame 60 has recesses 95 therein in which are located springs 94 of a predetermined compression, which press downwardly through yoke member 96 upon the centre of the shoe clamps 82, a universal joint 84 ensuring equalization of pressure over the shoe. The free ends of the member 60 is in the form of a tooth 62 which engages with a latch 64 pivoted to the inner end of the lower frame member. Upper and lower frame members have, respectively, flat bearing surfaces 102 and 104 upon which the jaws 178 and 206 of the clamping and unclamping units 122 and 124 engage. The inner ends of adjacent lower frame members 54 are secured together by bolts 66, the outer ends being secured to the conveyer chains 68. The upper frame members 56 have arms 60 carrying rollers 110 which engage guide rails 108. As shown in Fig. 9, the guide rails 108 extend over the lower part of the conveyer path and are so shaped that by their action on the rollers 110, they cause the upper frame members to be opened and closed to permit removal and clamping of the shoe assemblies. As shown in Fig. 4, they are being opened to allow the dumping of the bonded shoe assemblies. Fig. 10 shows the unclamping unit 124 to which the clamping unit 126 is generally similar. The unit 126 comprises a generally U-shaped frame 132 to which is pivoted a pneumatic power cylinder 228, the piston of which acts through a lever 226, pivoted at 230, upon an upper jaw member 196, the lower bearing face 206 of which bears against surface 102 of clamping frame member 60. The jaw member 196 carries on it a pivoted spring loaded latch 234, which on movement of jaw assembly 196 towards jaw assembly 174, deflects the latch 234 sufficiently to release the toothed end 62 of upper frame 60. The guide rails 108 through their action on the rollers 110 now act to open up the shoe assembly clamp. The control system which automatically actuates the power cylinder of the clamping and unclamping devices 122 and 124 is shown in Fig. 21. Air pressure is supplied from a suitable source through pipe 264 to master control valves 266. As the conveyer belt moves, a series of spaced studs 258, Fig. 10, near to the connection of lower frame member 54, with the conveyer or chain, engage and deflect cam plates 256, Fig. 8, so that shafts 252 are pivoted to open normally closed valves 262, Fig. 21, and thus through the master valve 266 apply pressure to cylinder 228 to operate the clamping units. The movement of the clamping unit 124, Fig. 10, about its pivotal mounting 154 is subsequently used to open valves 270 which exhaust the pressure from the cylinders 228 to reopen the clamps. The clamping and unclamping action is repeated automatically for each shoe assembly unit as it passes round on the conveyer chain.
