PURPOSE: A thin film cutting device for a display panel and a thin film cutting method using the same are provided to secure accurate cutting of a thin film along pattern lines by moving a cutting head in parallel to or at the right angle to the pattern lines. CONSTITUTION: A thin film cutting device for a display panel comprises a stage(104), a horizontal transfer unit, a measuring unit, a movement control unit, and a cutting head(130). A thin film(10) having a plurality of straight pattern lines(12) is loaded on the stage. The horizontal transfer unit moves along X- or Y-axis on the stage. The measuring unit moves one of the pattern lines of the stage and measures the pattern lines. The movement control unit sets a virtual pattern trajectory corresponding to the pattern direction of the pattern lines based on the measurement data and controls the movement of the horizontal transfer unit in the direction of the X- or Y-axis. The cutting head cuts the thin film into a square form by irradiating a laser beam to the thin film after moved so that both sides thereof are aligned with or perpendicular to the direction of the pattern lines.
