A mixing device for mixing a liquid with an instant ingredient to form a beverage is disclosed. The mixing device comprises a mixing chamber (24) with a circular cross section which surrounds a rotor (25). An outlet duct (36) is arranged in the axial direction of the rotor and has an inlet (53) located in proximity to the surface of the rotor. A rotor rib (56) which extends the entire axial length of the rotor is provided on both sides of the inlet and further ribs (54) around the periphery of the rotor as desired. A beverage making device comprising the mixing device is also disclosed.
