SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING MOTION CAPTURE AND IMAGE RECONSTRUCTION

A computer-implemented method implemented within a motion capture system for performing surface reconstruction of a subject having a three dimensional capture volume from multiple-range data sets is disclosed. The method comprises creating a scalar field for the three-dimensional (3-D) capture volume of the subject; generating a surface mesh for the scalar field; retaining a first set of vertices based on relative positioning of the vertices to range values for a specified number of cameras and removing a second set of vertices of the surface mesh based on relative positioning of the vertices to the range values for the cameras or a determination as to whether the vertices fall into a region of no data of a specified number of cameras; and storing the first set of vertices for use in subsequent reconstruction of the motion of the subject.
