PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element that can suppress damage on a layer containing an organic substance when film formation is performed by a sputtering method, and provide a light-emitting element that can suppress short-circuiting or the like between electrodes while suppressing damage on a layer containing an organic substance when film formation is performed by a sputtering method.

SOLUTION: A light-emitting element comprises a layer containing an organic substance between a first electrode and a second electrode, and a layer containing a metal oxide between the second electrode and the layer containing the organic substance. These electrodes and layers are stacked so that the second electrode is formed later than the first electrode.
