The method involves subjecting pollutant-reducing medium in a storage device (22) to pressure, which increases opposite to ambient pressure. The pollutant-reducing medium acted upon with pressure is transmitted to a metering device (20) of after-treatment of an exhaust gases system. The acted pressure is produced by introduction of gaseous or liquid into a memory device of the pollutant-reducing medium. The acted pressure is controlled through a pressure regulator (34). An independent claim is also included for a device for treating exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine.
