The present invention relates to an expanded perlite for low temperature thermal insulation. The expanded perlite for low temperature thermal insulation of the present invention is characterized by dried and expanded perlite ore particles, which have surfaces with a closed cell shape, as an active ingredient. The present invention provides an expanded perlite for low temperature thermal insulation, which reduces conductivity by minimizing porosity and gaps between the particles, and can increase carrying capacity for liquefied gas by reducing the thickness of the insulation structure through reduction of boil-off gas (BOG), such as LNG.
