The present invention relates to transgenic non-human animals containing recombinant DNA having a nucleotide sequence from the third complement component gene modified in such a way that exon 24 is deleted, as well as to cells and tissue derived from said animal. It also relates to a method for producing such an animal. Furthermore, it relates to use of said animal, cells and tissue to test the involvement of the complement system in different diseases and to screen compounds interfering with the activation of the complement system.
