A cleaning device is used in an image forming apparatus for removing residual substances on a surface of the image forming apparatus after an image forming operation including a process for developing an electro-static latent image formed by electrophotography on a surface of an image data forming body of the image forming apparatus and a process for transferring the developed image onto a recording medium. The cleaning device includes a first cleaning device (2) for removing residual toner (7) from the surface of the image data forming body (10); and a second cleaning means (5) for removing an adhering substance (8) different from the toner from the surface of the image data forming body.
