<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door handle device for an automobile capable of reducing the number of part items, and capable of reducing inertial mass in a collision. <P>SOLUTION: This door handle device is provided with a handle base 3 fixed to a door body, a handle 4 having one end side rotatably supported by the handle base 3 and having a wire guiding passage part 10 on the other end side, and a Bowden wire 7 composed of an outer cable 7b having a cylindrical shape and having one end side fixed to the handle base 3 and an inner wire 7a slidingly arranged in the outer cable 7b, having an engaging part 20 in one end side end part and movably engaging the engaging part 20 with the wire guiding passage part 10.
