An aminomethylene derivative represented by the formula I. Wherein; A is a cyclic oxo group selected from the formula (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e); wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 each independently represent H, an alkyl group, cycloalkyl groups, aralkyl groups and aryl groups; R6, R7 and R8 each independently represent an alkyl group alkyl group, cycloalkyl groups, aralkyl groups and aryl groups; R1 and R2 or R7 and R8 may combine with each other to form a tetramethylene group; R represents an alkyl group optionally containing OH or O; and n is an integer of 0-4. The derivatives have excellent ultraviolet absorption ability and a high optical stability. The derivatives are useful for as ultraviolet absorbents such as cosmetic sunscreens, or as part of weather proofing material.
