<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress waveform deterioration of an optical pulse in the case where an operational condition in modulation is varied, and to generate an optical pulse whose noise component is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: An optical pulse generation apparatus 1 includes an optical pulse generation section 20, an optical control section 30 and an optical pulse compression section 40. The optical pulse generation section 20 generates continuous optical pulse streams in each of which a first time domain changing an optical frequency in an increasing direction and a second time domain changing it in a decreasing direction are alternately repeated and each of which has high optical power in one of the first and second time domains and has low light power in the other time domain. The optical control section 30, to which light from the optical pulse generation section 20 is incident, transmits the incident light therethrough in the one time domain but cuts off or attenuates the incident light in the other time domain.
