PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulically actuated fuel injector and a valve controller for it whereby it is possible to preclude or reduce air inclusion in a working fluid. SOLUTION: Inside the valve controller 102, an opening is provided to admit insertion of a spool 112 capable of moving between a first position and a second position. At the plane of this opening, a groove 108 is formed to serve as a communication port, and also the spool 112 is furnished with a groove 114. When the spool is in the first position, the two grooves 108 and 114 are in alignment, and the oil can flow into an actuation port 06 from a supply part 104. When the spool is in the second position, the grooves 108 and 14 are out of alignment, and the oil does not flow to the actuation port. An exhaust port 110b is positioned above the oil surface so as to hinder the air from intruding into the groove in the spool.
