The device has an UV lamp i.e. UV-C lamp, including a tubular structure with overall length of approximately 30 to 70 cm. A ground switching off device is assigned to the UV lamp with a timing control. The UV lamp covers wavelength range from approximately 250 nanometers to 300 nanometers. A cooling circuit comprises a sea water lead (1), which moves toward a low temperature radiator (4) and away from a high temperature radiator (5), where the high temperature radiator stands in active compound with a main motor (6) of a ship.
