摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical polarizer that can be adapted to light from a point light source and reduce luminance unevenness, and to provide a surface light source device and a transmission image display device. <P>SOLUTION: Side surfaces 33a and 33b of a prism section are curved surfaces that extend in x direction on one main surface 21a of an optical polarizer 21. The signs of tilt angles between the tangent in each of positions on the side surfaces and y direction are the same on the side surfaces. The tilt angle monotonously increases from a top to an end. The rate of change of a line element with respect to the tilt angle in each position is positive in the range of 80% of the length in a second direction of the side surface. The maximum/minimum values of the rate of change are 500 or less. An optical element section 40 extending in the y direction on another main surface 21b of the optical polarizer is formed to have a region 51 where the intensity distribution of exit light changes in a linear function manner in the range of 10 to 90% of the maximum intensity. When a measurement light source 22<SB POS="POST">eaxm</SB>is disposed at a distance of 100 mm for measurement, the region of the intensity distribution has point symmetry with respect to the position corresponding to 50% of the maximum intensity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
