The method involves recording an image that is deposited as reference image of vehicle seats (1.1) arranged in the vehicle interior (1) in an unoccupied state by an image capturing unit (2). Another image is recorded from vehicle seats arranged in the vehicle interior to start a drive. The images are automatically compared and evaluated by an evaluation unit (3) such that it is automatically determined that which seat is occupied by a person or by an object from differences between the former image and the latter image. An independent claim is also included for a device for seat load detection in vehicle interior.
