Explosive metal-tetrazole complex (I) is new. Explosive metal-tetrazole complex of formula (I) is new. M : a transition metal from group 3-12; L : neutral ligand; X : anion; R 1>-NR 2>R 3>or -N=NR 4>; R 2>, R 3>alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl (all optionally substituted by amino, carbonyl or OH), H, O or NO 2; R 4>alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, (hetero)aryl (all optionally substituted by amino, carbonyl or OH), H or -NR 5>; R 5>alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or (hetero)aryl (optionally substituted by amino, imino, carbonyl or OH), H or amino; m : 0-6; n : 0-5, where the n is = to the difference between h and m, and both n and m are not 0; h : number of the possible ligands of the metal; p : (a-n), preferably at least 1; a : ligand value of M; and q, r : 1-3. Independent claims are included for: (1) an explosive comprising an initiating explosive, which is (I), styphnic acid and/or its transition metal compounds, iron nitrotetrazolate, metal azotetrazolate, sodium nitrotetrazolate and/or copper nitrotetrazolate; and (2) the preparation of (I).
