PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 2-cycle engine, in which blowing off of air-fuel mixture can be more efficiently reduced. SOLUTION: This 2-cycle engine is provided with a scavenge passage 19 opened to a combustion chamber 12 to which actuation gas including fuel is charged in a scavenge stroke, and a scavenge charge chamber 18 communicated with the scavenge passage 19 through a communication hole to which non-actuation gas of smaller fuel weight concentration than actuation gas is charged prior to the scavenge stroke. In the scavenge stroke, the scavenge passage 19 and the scavenge charge chamber 18 are opened to the combustion chamber 12, so that non-actuation gas in the scavenge charge chamber 18 is pushed by actuation gas in the scavenge passage 19 through the communication hole into the combustion chamber 12 for scavenging the combustion chamber 12. Actuation gas is not mixed with non-actuation gas in the scavenge charge chamber 18. Layered scavenge with a clear layer border can thus be performed.
