PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively weaken the electrostatic adherence between a carrier adhering to a photoreceptor surface and the photoreceptor surface and to enhance carrier collecting efficiency, with respect to an image forming apparatus for forming an image by an electrophotographic process using a two-component developer comprising a toner and carrier. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: a photoreceptor 11 having a transparent region through which light passes in a surface 111 grounded and capable of generating charges upon irradiation with light, wherein the surface 111 bears an electrostatic latent image at the transparent region and rotates in a predetermined direction; a developing unit 14 which develops the electrostatic latent image with the toner in the developer comprising the toner and carrier; a carrier collecting member 18 which collects the carrier adhering to the transparent region of the surface 111 which reaches a predetermined region tr at the predetermined region tr; and a light illuminating device 19 which is located on a side opposite to the side on which the carrier collecting member 18 is located by way of the transparent region of the surface 111 and which illuminates light on the transparent region of the surface 111 which reaches the predetermined region tr.
