A process for preparing polyketone is provided to improve catalytic activity and intrinsic viscosity of polyketone under the condition of a short polymerization time. The process for preparing polyketone comprises a step of copolymerizing ethylenically unsaturated compounds with carbon monooxide in a liquid medium in the presence of a catalyst. In the process, the catalyst is an organometal complex comprising (a) a Group 9, 10 or 11 transition metal compound, (b) a ligand containing a Group 15 element and (c) anions of acid having a pKa of 4 or less. In the process, anthraquinone upon copolymerization and component (c) is a mixture of at least two acids having a pKa of 4 or less.
