PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter substrate which has black matrixes, transparent colored films, and spacers and which has flat surfaces except for the spacers, at a low cost, in the color filter of a liquid crystal display device of an IPS type or the like. SOLUTION: A transfer plate 1 of releasability is formed, which has recessed parts 14 for spacer formation and a black matrix pattern as a translucent part, and also has the flat surface except for the recessed parts 14. After photosetting spacer materials are filled in the recessed parts 14 of the plate 1 for transfer, the entire surface is coated with a photosetting black matrix material, which is exposed through the plate 1 for transfer to cure all the spacer materials and a portion of the black matrix material; and uncured parts are developed and removed to form coloring material layers for color filters at pixel parts between the black matrixes. Then an adhesive is used to transfer the spacers, black matrixes, and coloring material for the color filters integrally from the plate 1 for transfer to the substrate for the color filters, thus manufacturing the color filter substrate which has the spacers and is flat except for the spacers.
