The process for laser welding with total penetration of first part (2) with a second part (4) having high thickness, using a focused laser beam (8), is claimed. The laser beam has a diameter of lower than 400 mu m. The length of Rayleigh zone of the laser beam is >= 20 mm, and defined by an equation, Z(R)=4lambda /pi (F/D) 2>, where lambda is wavelength of the laser beam, D is the diameter of the beam at a lens of the laser output and F is the focal distance of the laser output. A sealed vapor gap and a lath are provided at the ends of the first and the second parts.
