The vibration damper (1) has a separate compensation chamber (19,23) per direction of movement of a piston rod (7). A damping valve body of an adjustable damping valve (15,27) is connected with a working chamber of a cylinder (3) and the compensation chamber. The damping valve body underlies two flow directions of the adjustable damping valve.
