<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality twisted pair cable with uniform pitch having no slack even in the case where a pair of electric cables has variation in length. <P>SOLUTION: A back tension mechanism 1 for twisting an electric cable pair comprises a pair of electric cable clamps 2, a pair of movable substrates 3 on which the pair of electric cable clamps is separately fixed, a common fixture substrate 5 with which the pair of movable substrates is slidably engaged in a longitudinal direction of the electric cable along a guide rail 4, and a pair of air cylinders 6 for back tension for connecting the common fixture substrate and the pair of movable substrates. One end of a pair of electric cables 8 and the other end thereof are fixed by the pair of clamps 2 and another electric cable clamp 21, respectively. The pair of air cylinders 6 is operated to individually retract the pair of electric cable clamps 2 by the pair of movable substrates 3 with respect to the common fixture substrate 5, and the pair of electric cables is individually pulled with respect to the other electric cable clamp 21.
