The present invention relates to a method for cleaning articles in a CO 2 cleaning machine wherein the articles are placed in a cleaning chamber of the CO 2 cleaning machine, are contacted with dense phase carbon dioxide and with an antimicrobial agent, and wherein the antimicrobial agent is neutralised inside the CO 2 cleaning machine.
