The invention relates to the distribution of advertising and information messages and images to mobile device owners, for example mobile telephone owners. The technical result consists in increasing the probability of a user familiarizing himself with content whilst maintaining convenience in use with the mobile device. The method for delivering and displaying content on a mobile device comprises installing an external program on the mobile device which is necessary for producing, processing and demonstrating advertising and information messages, determining suitable content for each specific mobile device, delivering the content from or on behalf of a content provider and storing this content in the memory of the mobile device. In a period in which the device transfers to a mode with reduced energy consumption, the content is removed from the memory of the mobile device onto the screen of the mobile device above the user interface such that it is visible upon activation of the lighting of the screen of the mobile device. The current content is removed from the screen of the mobile device in the event of an external action by the user on the device.
