<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of an image display device capable of solving a problem in which the visibility of an image displayed on the image display device is reduced in a bright environment where the image display device is exposed to external light. <P>SOLUTION: An image display device comprises an image display panel in which pixels constituted by first, second, third, and fourth sub-pixels are arranged in a two-dimensional matrix and a signal processing part in which an input signal is input and an output signal based on an extension coefficient α<SB POS="POST">0</SB>is output. The maximum value of brightness V<SB POS="POST">max</SB>using the saturation S as a variable in an HSV color space enlarged by adding the fourth color to three primary colors and a reference extension coefficient α<SB POS="POST">0-std</SB>based on the maximum value V<SB POS="POST">max</SB>are determined in the signal processing part. Further, an extension coefficient α<SB POS="POST">0</SB>at each pixel is determined from the reference extension coefficient α<SB POS="POST">0-std</SB>, an input signal correction coefficient based on a sub-pixel input signal value at each pixel and an external light intensity correction coefficient based on external light intensity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
